My school is an alternative education school which uses blended learning to help the students complete their high school credits to earn a standard diploma. The stories of some of my students will pull at your heart strings. My school is a Title 1 school with many families living in poverty. I have 71 students on my roster. There is a laptop shortage throughout the country since all students started doing online learning all at once in the spring once Covid-19 hit. In many cases, students are sharing one device amongst siblings and parents, all of whom are attempting to learn and work from home. Our school was doing a blended learning model before Covid-19. Some students come to the school and learn face to face. Other students have the option of learning from home. Some students have had Covid-19 or have family members who have Covid-19 and MUST learn from home. We have given out all of our Loaner Laptops as a school and there is a NEED for some more laptops to be issued. With the procedures in place, we do not have the luxury of going to a store, use a company credit card, and buy a laptop already in stock. They must be ordered with a purchase order and shipped. The laptops already ordered through our Purchase Order are Backordered for weeks to months, but my students still need them to use now.
