I am blessed to teach in an incredibly diverse area. Our school hosts families from countries all over the world, such as India, Japan, Iran, China, Ireland, and Finland. We are a larger elementary school with 800+ students. Despite the large numbers, we are close-knit community.
My fifth graders are the world.
My students bring variety into the classroom that make us a melting pot of experiences, culture, knowledge, language, and beliefs. We enjoy having rich discussions based on what is happening around us, and value the variety of perspectives.
Fifth grade is a time when they start becoming aware. They develop a sense of themselves and their values, as well as others and the world around them. During this period, they begin the journey of creating who they are.
