Our middle and high school students are from neighborhoods within the entire city of Atlanta; however, they faced obstacles that required them to transition into a non-traditional, smaller learning environment where we can continue to provide academic growth opportunities while also focusing on social emotional learning, restorative practices, college and career readiness and communication. Most of the students have experienced trauma, generational poverty, loss of an immediate family member, and other severe factors that have impacted them in a negative manner. Therefore, we are attempting to merge academic opportunities, college & career readiness exposure, & SEL competencies: self-awareness, self-management, relationship skills, social awareness, and responsible decision making as a means of increasing their overall success. Ultimately, we are changing the culture of our school to one that is restorative.
