STEM is an ever-growing field. I was able to complete a two-day course with Project Lead the Way at the beginning of summer. We learned a great deal about how to use technology in an authentic way. We also talked a great deal about the teacher being the facilitator, growth mindset, and the power of failure. It was such a beneficial training for all involved.
I decided to best serve my students and science teacher, I would take on the coding portion of our Project Lead the Way science curriculum.
I participated in another workshop in June entitled, Tech Gadgets and Gizmos. It was based on the many hands-on ways to teach students with technology authentically with with all the new and exciting gizmos and gadgets available. I enjoyed this workshop tremendously. The day was over before I knew it. It solidified the need to me to have this exciting new way to teach coding and stem in my classroom. What an engaging opportunity!
As teachers, we learn daily with our students. If we are not, we are doing something very detrimental to our students' learning. I plan to implement some of the exciting new gizmos and gadgets in my third grade classroom. My students will be able to collaborate, learn from mistakes, engage, and have loads of fun at the same time. This is why I became a teacher twenty-three years ago. We need to be open to change and technology.
