We need a rain barrel for our garden! By having a rain barrel, students will be able to take care of our learning garden and make sure that it survives. We use this learning garden to watch Florida native plants go through their life cycle and through the seasons. The plants in our garden are also the host plant for the monarch butterfly, so we will be able to study the metamorphosis of a butterfly naturally in our garden.
Most important, students will learn how to be resourceful and environmentally friendly. By catching rainwater and saving it to water the garden they will learn how to use our resources wisely. Also, seeing it in action will help students to recognize how easy and beneficial using a rain barrel is and will encourage them to use them in their own home. My hope is that this project will inspire students in their own life and make a lasting impact so they will want to teach others!
