Although our class does have access to a computer lab, the computers are often broken, have missing keys and are commonly used for testing and closed to traditional classes.
Having technology in the classroom would allow the students to independently explore different interests and techniques for learning. Most of our focus in a first grade inclusion class is differentiating our lessons to meet the needs of individual students. With these tablets, students would have the opportunity to customize their learning to meet their specialized needs.
They can work during their centers to reinforce key ideas as well as create innovative problems for the class to solve. The tablets would be used in conjunction to coding websites and robotics previously purchased for the school to introduce computer sciences in the earlier grade levels. Students will have the opportunity to explore multiple platforms of technology that they generally wouldn't be exposed to in their home environment.
With the help of generous donations, these children will have a plethora of resources at their fingertips!
