Students need to be as active in class as they are outside of school. What does that entail? An environment that caters to that side of their personalities. Research shows that giving students choice and variety while in a classroom helps them focus and be more engaged. Additionally, movement helps stimulate the brain to increase student growth.
Flexible seating such as wobble chairs, balance balls, and reclining seats, will make students self-aware of their learning style and give them the power to choose what is best for them. By having the option of different seating arrangments, it will allow all students to sit, stand, bounce or lie down without drawing attention away from the learning. When the classroom is in constant motion, it reduces the distractions movement makes.
