My students will be learning about American and World History through two novel studies, The Duel: The Parallel Lives of Alexander Hamilton and Aaron Burr and The Boy in the Striped Pajamas. Both novels will be read and discussed within the classroom over the next school year. The students will gain vocabulary comprehension, a better understanding of important historical events, and practice their critical thinking and collaborative learning skills through fervent class discussions. These two books have been vetted and are preferred by educators as tools for teaching middle school children on these important historic events. These books will make a difference for my students and their lives as it will enhance their love of reading and help them relate to significant historical events. Besides discussions and skills taught by these books, students will use a variety of Project-Based-Learning Projects to demonstrate and apply what they have learned and use their creativity to express the various theme or themes of the novel.
