A classroom environment shapes the educational experience for students the moment they step foot into their classroom. My students are full of life and energy and just as adults do, they get tired of sitting in a chair all day. Students need to be given the opportunity to choose flexible and comfortable seating options around the classroom. These options are not only more comfortable but also enhance student engagement and learning. Furthermore, students respond positively to being offered the choice of where to sit and when is very empowering.
I want to support children in taking charge of their own learning. Studies show students learn and focus better when they are physically active and comfortable. Therefore, we are seeing an increase in flexible seating options in classroom spaces. I would like to offer helpful tools such as, balance balls, wobble chairs, pedal exercisers, clipboards, bungee chairs, yoga mats, and wobble cushions in my classroom.
If fulfilled, this project would significantly aid my students in staying engaged and focused on their learning throughout the day. The classroom should be a comfortable space where all students are welcome to select a productive place to work successfully!
