We do a lot of small group and whole group instruction inside of my classroom. If my students were afforded the opportunity to have functional laptops, headphones, and mice, my students would be able to independently explore various online educational programs directly aligned with students' goals.
A lot of my students come from low SES backgrounds and often do not have access to educational technology outside of the classroom.
Having functional laptops inside the classroom will allow them to become motivated and independent learners. They will be able to access a plethora of online educational programs such as Waterford, which is an online intervention program that our district currently utilizes on a daily basis.
This intervention software provides them with the opportunity to independently practice learned skills and also practice remedial skills that they may be struggling with. These computers will also help me as an instructor keep up to date progress monitoring as a lot of online programs often simultaneously collect data as the student works through various activities online. This is ideal as data drives my instruction!
