Science is one of my first loves! Becoming a science teacher last year, after teaching third, fourth and fifth grade for 10 years prior to, was honestly a dream come true. I teach environmental science, biology, chemistry, physics and astrology to over 150 budding scientists every week!!! I love what I do, however, I'm always on a quest to do more. The vast majority of the friends I teach are females of African American or Latino descent. Many of those friends come from low-income, single parent households with more than one sibling, and share a distinct need for mentor-ship, guidance, outlets, motivation and encouragement. My goal is to give it to them by any means necessary!! I selected 32 girls whom I and my guidance counselor felt would benefit most from a program that would do just that. One of our major focuses is empowerment through science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
