Eighty students rotating through books and classroom can be a nightmare without organization. Students can get right to reading when they store materials in personal boxes. Magazine boxes will be used to keep each student's resources available so they can spend all available time in their books without the fear of someone else grabbing their book. Boxes will store composition notebooks used to record thinking about reading and books student has chosen to read.
Meeting with a favorite character in a cozy place creates a secure environment to escape into new places. How do adults read? Comfortable, cozy, and lost in a plot of their choice. Let's give children the same experience! Bean bag seating helps readers get comfortable enough to "get lost" in their books. Students get out of their traditional seats to experience books in comfort. My struggling readers need an environment that helps to relieve some of anxiety that they experience as they navigate stories. Higher readers get comfortable going beyond the anthology into books they choose. Please give these students an organized reading environment with comfortable seating choices.
