One of the ways young students first learn to read is by listening to other strong readers. This can be accomplished by setting up classroom listening centers. In these centers students can select books and stories they enjoy, and follow along as a proficient reader models what good reading sounds like. The Comfy Corner Listening Center gives students a classroom nook, where they can settle in and do this in a safe, comfortable environment.
When very young students are first learning English, they have the difficult task of learning the language AND age-appropriate academic tasks, such as reading. The more opportunities I can give them to interact with language experiences, the more likely they are to become strong speakers and readers of English themselves. A classroom listening center will provide such opportunities.
Thank you for helping to provide my English Language Learners with a Comfy Listening Corner!
