These books will be used to teach social skills through literacy. We will use these books as read-alouds or in small group settings. Each book will have a coinciding activity for students to practice the character building skill. These skills include kindness, friendship, anti-bullying, perseverance, cooperation, honesty, test-anxiety, grief, acceptance, having a growth mindset, among others. In today's world, it is vital that we teach the whole child--not just academics. Our focus should be on instilling core values of kindness, acceptance, perseverance, and respect through our teaching--test prep will only take us so far. It is our hope that our students leave us, not only smarter, but better people who are ready to make our world a better place.
