Many of my students struggle with both the skills and the desire to take on writing tasks. As an English and Social Studies teacher, this makes task engagement more difficult than it has to be.
By having multiple ways to engage in writing (rather than just notebook paper and a pencil), students will be more willing to take on writing tasks that may have previously deterred them. Chart paper will be used to make learning more accessible to students through the use of anchor charts and group activities, sticky notes will allow students to prep themselves for student-led discussions by writing down their thoughts beforehand. Colored paper will engage students on a more sensory level when taking notes, working on projects, or brainstorming writing ideas.
I have also included basic paper and pencil supplies to ensure that there is always a "back up" if my school runs out of copy paper or students are unable to come to school with the basic supplies. These supplies will be used throughout the year to ensure the utmost student success and engagement in my classroom.
