Students need to feel a sense of comfort and belonging in the classroom before learning can effectively take place. There are so many decisions that we make for our kids and it's exciting when we can give them the opportunity to make a few of their own. During times of independent work or reading, my students can pick a cozy place to park themselves. Some students may grab a clipboard and a seat cushion while finishing center work while others may plop into the bean bag chair to read a good book in our reading center. The comfy seats, bouncy balls, and wobble seats will provide them with more variety of comfort.
I want my students to choose where they feel most at home, most engaged, and most enthusiastic about learning in their classroom. The wobble chairs will provide a little energy release for my kinder babies who can always use some time to get their wiggles out. The bouncy balls will be an incredibly exciting addition to my small group table because I'll be accommodating my students on a whole new level! I have seen the tremendous benefits of flexible seating by looking at the smiles on my student's faces when they walk through my classroom door.
