I know the importance of having a comfortable work space and this isn't always sittting in a chair while at a desk. I believe the stools, wobble chairs, and balance boards will allow my students the flexibilty to choose a work space that will work best for them.
Many students have a difficult time staying focused and on task. By allowing students the ability to be able to move and change seating through out the day students will help alleviate these behaviors.
Everything I do in my classroom is based on reserach and best practices. Benefits of flexible seating include burning more calories, exerting energy, metabolism booster, increased motivation and engagement, creating a better oxygen flow to the brain, and improving core strength and overall posture.
Researcher Matthew T. Mahar, et al finds that:
"Simple in-class activities can boost performance. Studies suggest that children who participate in short bouts of physical activity within the classroom have more on-task behavior, with the best improvement seen in students who are least on-task initially."
My students will come to know that a classroom isn't just a room with four walls, desks and chairs. They will come to learn and explore in a cozy environment set up for a variety of needs.
