The two curriculums that I will be teaching this year require some sort of notebook. In almost every lesson students will be responding to questions, creating their own questions to texts that we have read, and even constructing one-pagers or sketch notes to help differentiate the note-taking process. In order to do this, we will be needing composition notebooks, something that most of my students' parents are unable to purchase themselves. Pencils are a requirement. If they do not have a pencil, they won't be able to write anything, not just in my class, but in their other classes as well. Colored pencils are a requirement for sketch notes and one-pagers to help create a better visual of what they are learning.
Some students enjoy visuals as it gives them something to refer to when they get stuck, however, my students REQUIRE visuals in order to understand key concepts and to be successful with grade-level content. The markers, anchor chart paper, and colored pencils will also assist me in creating vibrant, more colorful visual aids that my students can refer to all year.
