While these materials are not the typical school supplies, what I have learned about my students is remembering little things in their lives mean the most. So that includes birthdays, sporting events and the holidays.
Doing something nice for them around the holidays and acknowledging them builds amazing relationships with your students and you see that transpire in the classroom. Most of my students don't have the resources to celebrate holidays but it doesn't mean they don't want to celebrate it and get into the holiday spirit. So the fact that I want to celebrate it with them in my room will go a long way with continuing to build bonds with them. My request includes holiday decorations including tinsel and holiday cutouts to put on the outside of my door. I also have stockings I wanted to hang up in the room and allow the kids to decorate them with their name. And I have also requested some candy and cookies to place in the stocking as their surprise. I think it will mean a lot to them knowing that someone knows their name and is going above and beyond doing something for them.
