I am requesting a small library of texts on race, equity, restorative practices, and cultural competence to be made available to the faculty and staff. Teachers and staff will be able to borrow books for ongoing professional development and reflective practice. Right now, professional development is often a one-time training. Topics such as race, trauma, poverty, and the achievement gap cannot be summarized in a one-day session; ongoing training is needed.
Educators believe in teaching their students to empower themselves and engage in lifelong learning. This library will allow teachers and staff to practice what they preach and challenge themselves to strengthen their own practices. The books are intended to support the implementation of equitable practices in a diverse school with an education gap.
