I want to take my teaching to the outdoors! Children are cooped up inside for too much of the day. I want to create an outdoor classroom for my kindergarteners and help them to discover their learning in the fresh air. We already have a large school garden, and this will just add to the love of the outdoors with a water exploration table, mud kitchen, and an outdoor easel. These items will allow students to explore nature like we used to years ago before technology took over. The mud kitchen gives the students a place to create imaginary recipes that they can mix and dig into with their hands. This sensory exploration is so important to young children. The water table will give the students a place to explore with water using tools and tubes to see how water flows and items placed in the water, such as rocks, even Petosky stones, can add to their learning. Finally, the outdoor art easel would be a wonderful addition to the outdoor classroom because it will give the children a place to freely express themselves with paint or any other materials that may be too messy for indoors. We plan to add to the classroom in the future, but these items will really be a great start. Please help us to add to this mission of getting our kids up and outside! Kids are happier and healthier when they are interacting with their classmates outside.
