Student's need flexible seating options to keep all their muscles active. Sitting still for a 6 hour school day is just not possible with 5 year olds! It is also not recommended, proven, or healthy!
Keeping their body and muscles active will keep their brains active too!
Having the stability wobble cushions and balance balls will activate the student's core. These cushions and balance balls allow the students to bounce or move while still seated and focused. Having the soft seats and 3-1 chairs allow the students to choose their own seating options. The 3-1 chair can be a stool or a chair. They can be used in a variety of settings. The students can use them with a clip board or at a desk. Flexible seating is all about the students becoming more independent and in charge of their learning. They will be choosing where they can focus best. Then, without even realizing it they can be working out and being active!
This project is special to me because I went to school for education as well as health promotion. With childhood obesity on the rise, I make it my goal to incorporate movement into all of my lessons. This helps students health as well as it improves the learning environment for students who struggle with ADD or ADHD. The students will be able to bounce, move, wiggle and shake while still focusing on the task at hand!
