My children are sweet, eager, and energetic Kindergarteners who come to school wanting to learn as much as they can. Unfortunately, they also come to school with many unfulfilled needs. They live in poverty in a rough neighborhood, and many of them come to school tired, hungry, unclean and unprepared. Many of them have never even held a book or had a story read to them. Many of my students come from hard working families who just can't seem to get ahead. They can't afford to buy what their kids need, and they don't even know how to support their children. For some of them, they are defeated before they even get a chance to try.
