The vast majority of my students come from poverty-stricken neighborhoods, where they do not have internet access. In a world where everything is done online, my students find it difficult to be able to do many things. In our school, we have many older laptops that are missing keys. Having access to the silicone keyboard cover will help my students be able to better make use of the technology resources available. My students would be able complete assignments, explore the internet to inquire new things, and be able to use the online learning interventions our district has provided for us. Even more importantly, being able to use a computer correctly will make my students become more prepared to compete in our society, as computer literacy is a skill required today in many areas.
When you come from a neighborhood that has been infamous for its opioid crisis, the use of a computer helps you escape and see the great things out in the world that will motivate you to do better. I plan on using the keyboard covers in my English classes where my students will be able to do research, type documents and use all the wonderful Google programs that our district uses. Since our school no longer has a library, having this resource available will also allow me to provide my students a place to go to outside of our scheduled class time and explore a world of opportunities on a computer.
