Do you remember back when kindergarten was play-based? Just because there is an extra focus on academics doesn't mean we have to take the play away. The kids I have in my classroom come from a low-socioeconomic area. Many of them do not have good social skills.
But they all have one thing in common: they love to learn through play! It also helps build their social skills. I strive to have lots of manipulatives to make learning more fun. I want my kids to have fun while learning so that they are excited to come to school and so that the learning feels more natural and exciting.
I have a lot of manipulatives in my room, but I am still in need of more counting manipulatives which are used in math centers. I'm requesting a variety of materials and sets including Match It! Counting, Mini-Dino Counters, Primary Shapes, Hundred Board, Geometric Solids, Snap Cubes, and Match Me cards. We do not have any scales or 3D shapes for math, and so it is hard to show students these concepts (I have to improvise). With these 3D shapes and Math Balances, my students will really be able to understand the material better.
We also need Expo dry erase markers, reusable dry erase pockets, and Play-Doh for many of our hands-on center activities. The Mead writing journals will help my students create their own stories and allow them to illustrate them, as well. I'll keep time with the classroom magnetic Time Tracker.
Thank you!
