My student's love the time of the year when they get to explore clay and pottery. Who doesn't LOVE working with clay? I look forward to the clay projects each year and so do the students.
The clay will be used for 1st - 5th graders ( 480 students) and each project will be exciting and different.
1st grade will create their own pinch pot containers and use the clay tools to add actual texture through pattern on the outside of the their containers.
2nd grade will be making Clay Cupcake Containers. They will explore making 2 pinch pot containers, one is the top with a cherry as a handle and the bottom of the cupcake with texture on the outside.
3rd grade will be making Screaming Fish! Another exploration of pinch pot containers, but also exploring additive sculpture through the addition of eyes, tongue and fins to the body of the fish.
4th grade will be making Clay Coil containers which also require the use of the clay tools requested, students will explore a different way of building a container.
5th Grade will be creating hand built clay tiles, through an additive process, students will create a relief sculpture on their tile that is inspired by flowers.
