My first grade students are learning to be responsible for their own things. They are learning to organize items so they will be accessible to them when they need them.
I AM FINDING THAT MANY OF MY STUDENTS HAVE NEVER HAD TO BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR OWN THINGS! COATS THROWN ON THE FLOOR! LOST LUNCHBOXES! CRAYONS ROLLING UNDER THE TABLES!
We need practice organizing our tools and putting things back where they belong. The organizational tools I am hoping to get for my students will give them labeled personal items and personal spaces where these items should be stored. This will help my students learn responsibility and the value of organization and give them a sense of pride in caring for their own tools.
