The books chosen are to generate a high reading interest for my students. Each class period, I intend to start with SSR (Silent Sustained Reading). This will build their "reading muscle". Usually, students do not come to my class excited about reading; however, by reading daily, students will extend themselves to be well read as well as learn to read more for themselves and encourage learning. High Interest Young Adult Novels will build my students "reading Muscle" and increase their academic abilities. The more a student reads, the more they are able to read and recognize other pieces of text as well as build a knowledge base for recognizing connections of texts and situations where the students may not otherwise learn about.
