Flexible classrooms give students a choice in what kind of learning space works best for them. Allowing the students to choose bean bags, wobbly seats, or reading pillows for their learning each day will provide them with higher level thinking skills.
The research on flexible learning is limited, but it is clear that learning environments have a direct impact on student learning.
A 2012 study from the University of Minnesota found that students participated 48 percent more in discussions in a classroom with collaborative group seating versus traditional lecture-style seating, and also improved their performance on standardized tests.
