At my school, we have an amazing program called Battle of the Books. Kids get a list with 20 books to read over the course of the year. They try to read as many as possible and when they are done, there is a "battle"! Kids form teams and answer questions that are random and in response to the books. The team with the most point win and it's a huge honor!
The idea is to promote literacy, collaboration, comprehension and a love of reading. It is such a great program and my goal is to have all the books available in my classroom library so that as many kids as possible can participate. The books are always checked out in the school library so I would like to accommodate my own kids and encourage them to be a part of an amazing experience. Oh...and some teachers might even form a team of their own to battle the winning group so I need the books just as much as the kids! LOL!!
