In early childhood classrooms, a learning rug is a central meeting place in the classroom for group lessons and partner work during both our math and literacy blocks. The rug we currently have in our classroom was a hand-me-down rug from another teacher and is literally falling apart and my students deserve better.
The rug included in this project will create a clean, comfortable meeting spot in our classroom. In addition, several flexible seating options will be offered to students during independent work times. It has been my experience that giving students a choice of where they are most comfortable working leads to a higher level of engagement. Currently, students are able to choose to move throughout the room and sit in a variety of chairs including rockers, bean bag seats, and large chairs that allow for the swinging of legs. The stools included in this order will add another option for the children and will also be used as seating at my small group learning table.
