In this millenium, it is imperative that students be able to successfully navigate a computer. Not only does our current economy and culture demand it, but so do our standardized tests. We, as teachers, no longer have to just teach students the material to pass a test; we must teach them how to access the test.
Most of my students do not have access to a computer at home and come to school significantly disadvantaged. Fortunately, our school has been blessed with a chromecart to share between grade levels. I have maximized use of the Chromebooks by organizing their usage during our centers. However, this requires some of the student to use the Chromebook on the carpet. I often find kids spending valuable time trying to find a comfortable position, instead of working. Lap desks would increase the productive time the kids spend on the Chromebook and help close the learning gap.
