Going from kindergarten to fifth grade, it hit me that a box full of stickers and shiny new crayons might not be the most effective way to engage my new students. Looking back on my fifth grade experience, which was quite a long time ago, the one thing I remember that excited me about school was the classroom library!
The more that you read, the more things you will know, the more that you know, the more places you'll go.
I want to be able to provide my students with a classroom library that is filled with engaging and challenging texts. These Sunshine State Youth Readers (SSYRA) are designed just for that! Students will be able to check out and bring these books home to enjoy and then come and take a quiz to assess their comprehension.
In addition to these books, I have added a color printer to my list. Sadly, our school does not have the funds to provide teachers with color printers leaving our classrooms dull and gray. I would love to be able to spice up our classroom with colorful assignments, graphs, pictures and anchor charts while allowing my students to explore their creative sides.
Please help this transitioning teacher bring some life to this classroom with color and great literature!
