I am asking for a listening center and some audio books. These materials will give my students the chance to listen to someone else read during our literacy block. This will give them the opportunity to hear someone else read with fluency and expression.
Listening to someone else read is a good model for students building their reading skills and it will also be something new and exciting to liven up the classroom and make learning fun. Listening to exciting stories that they are interested in is important.
A listening center will also give students the ability to read the same stories together and build community in the classroom by sharing their thoughts.
