More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education.
My classroom is already prepared to have a listening center for my Kindergarten students to use! These 20 eager learners will benefit so much from listening to CDs of children's books. The majority of the students know Spanish as their first language and know very little English. Most of their parents have limited English skills as well and are unable to help their child speak, much less read, in English. The CD player will be something that will be used all year long for students of all different learning levels. The listening center will help these Kindergartners learn to associate the text to the pictures, help to reinforce rhymes, and give the students an opportunity to track the text. Further in the year as the students learn to read some sight words and develop decoding skills, they will be able to read the book(s) along with the CD.
By donating to our classroom project, you will help these young students learn English as well as develop early reading skills in a fun and exciting way! Being able to speak and read English well can make an enormous difference in the lives of these children.
