The vast majority of my students come from poverty-stricken neighborhoods, where they do not have internet access. In a world where everything is done online, my students find it difficult to be able to do many things. Having access to Chromebooks will help my students be able to research/apply for colleges, apply for jobs and scholarships, obtain health care and become better at using a computer which is a skill needed today.
When you live in a world of drugs and violence, the use of a computer helps you escape and see the great things out in the world that will motivate you to do better. I plan on using the chromebooks for small group weekly sessions with my students as part of group counseling where we will address their needs and ideas. I have approximately 250 students to reach and my goal is that having this resource available they will be able to know where to go to outside of our sessions. Since we no longer have a library, this will help my students explore a world of opportunities.
