Our class needs a place to gather and join together as a community. A large classroom carpet will allow my students to have an inclusive space to work on collaborative learning and social skill building creating an optimal work area for everyone. Students will learn about personal space with the individual squares and letters serving as seating spots. With designated spaces, students will also be able to easily partner up in pairs or groups, decreasing the time needed for finding or creating partners and leaving more time to learning.
A classroom carpet will ensure that all students have their own individual space to learn and think.
As a teacher I will utilize the classroom carpet as management tool to proactively deter disruptions and keep students focused on learning. It will provide space to gather students for classroom meetings where they will be encouraged to openly discuss their feelings and thoughts with others. The carpet will provide additional and alternative seating arrangements, and the alphabet perimeter will be a help for visual learners.
I also plan to use the large carpet for 'read alouds' so I help model a love of reading for my students, with the goal of creating life-long readers. As said by one of my favorite authors, 鈥淭he more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you鈥檒l go.鈥 - Dr. Seuss
