My students come to me from generational poverty families. The boy to girl ratio is 5:1 in my classroom. The only other thing that causes as much competition in my class is who is going to get to come to the Smart board to interact with the lesson. My students are figuring out who they want to be and what they want to achieve in life. This is a very critical time in their life where social interactions and acceptance are very important to them.
