My classroom currently does not have any flexible seating options for students and although I hope to provide many different options, my first goal is to get 2 carpets to cover the cold linoleum flooring.
My students have a variety of unique needs and benefit from a large variety of resources to help them be successful. Classroom carpets will help to lay a foundation for the success of all other resources and flexible seating options. For many of my students, sitting on the floor helps them focus. The carpets will provide students with a space where they feel comfortable and can be their best selves. When this is true, they can and will be the most successful learners.
The first carpet will be designated for community building activities and group work. Many of my students enjoy spending time in groups on the floor, where they can work on social skill building and academic activities in a more relaxed manner. The second carpet will be placed in a break area. Many of my students have many emotional and sensory needs and the break area is a safe space where they can use calming strategies to reset and feel ready to learn. Together, these carpets will help make our classroom welcoming and foster a sense community!
