We are living in a visual era. Pictures and videos are used to communicate with the world in ways we have never seen before! We want to offer real opportunities for them to develop skills in not only picture-taking and video-recording, but also in the editing process. We want to do all these things with a basis in the visual elements and principles of design.
We also want to give students the chance to come in contact with proper media equipment (such as an iPad and professional cameras like a Canon) and learn how to handle this type of equipment responsibly. Incorporating photography and media into the After-School Enrichment Program will accomplish two things: (1) The students will learn how to use media and technology as another tool for communication and expression, (2) The students who develop a strong interest and talent in this area will have the opportunity to service our other after-school clubs (Drama, Fashion, and Cooking) by taking pictures and making videos of the great things going on with them as well.
We would love to showcase all of our hard work and growth through student-made photos and videos. We hope, too, that this initiative will help establish and lead to a more structured media club for the future; students that feel empowered to volunteer their time and talents during school-wide events and become leaders in our school community.
The gift of this essential technology will allow us to provide stimulating and engaging learning opportunities for our students and the tools for them to become school leaders. This initiative supports the noble vision of our charter school, "to create a community of bilingual, multicultural, life-long learners committed to academic excellence and leadership while celebrating diversity and culture.
