Most of our students have trauma backgrounds and many life stressors. When they arrive at school, they are seeking a place that feels like home and is safe and comfortable in order to learn.
We are seeking snacks and drinks to have available in our classroom, as this is a significant part of being able to provide a safe and supportive atmosphere where they have trust and feel cared for. The snacks and drinks on our list include our students' favorites and the items that we find are requested most - they include beef jerky, chips, fruit snacks, cookies and crackers, breakfast bars, items to fill our coffee/tea/hot chocolate bar, and sweets for the occasional treat.
Students have long days at school, and they are also hungry teenagers! Having snacks and drinks available can sometimes be the difference between giving up on working on an assignment and pushing through.
