STEM is important because it pervades every part of our lives. Science is everywhere around us. Technology is changing every day and is starting to infuse itself into more aspects of our lives. Engineering is building bridges, roads, and coming up with ways to combat global warming. Mathematics is involved in everything we do in our lives. By exposing students to STEM and giving them opportunities to explore STEM-related concepts, they will develop a passion for it and hopefully pursue a job in a STEM field. STEM activities provide hands-on and minds-on lessons for the student. Making math and science both fun and interesting helps the student to do much more than just learn.
Each one of the activities I have selected will help me start my STEM Resource class and allow students the opportunity to learn in ways they haven't before. From building circuits, to gears and Duplo blocks. Each purchase will get me closer to becoming the STEM teacher I would have wanted in school. I envision the classroom being student led with ideas flowing the second they walk in. Our children are our future. We have to help them learn how to solve problems that might not even exist yet.
