The requested supplies for my students will help them achieve success in the following ways. The dictionaries will be used to help students identify if their inferred meaning of our unit vocabulary words are congruent to the dictionary meaning. Unfortunately I currently do not have enough dictionaries for my students and I would like to incorporate more words on my word wall that would require students to research through dictionaries the correct definition of our vocabulary.
Another request is for a globe and a world map. We do a lot with current events in our civics class and I want them to get a global view of where some of these news stories are taking place throughout the world. I also am requesting folders that I can provide each of my students with so they can keep their assignments in a working portfolio. This allows them to see the progress they are making and also keep assignments in a central location if we are continuing the activity for an extended period of time.
Lastly, I am requesting paper and ink due to a limited school budget this year which has already seen a shortage of paper. Since our Civics textbook is over 20 years old, I have created many relevant and up-to-date lessons that align with our curriculum. Unfortunately these lessons require individualized copies and modifications for each student, and the ability to access paper is a must for students to engage in these well thought out and current lessons.
