I would like to provide our Head Start class with new unit blocks. Our blocks are quite old, and many are already worn at the edges. Many of them have been written or drawn on by past students. We also have a set of large wooden blocks but the nails are coming out of them and they are no longer safe for play. As unit blocks are a large ticket item there is just not enough funding each year to buy these. The large foam blocks are to replace the large wooden blocks, in order to differentiate play and create larger structures.
Our students come in without the understanding of how to play with blocks, and leave after a year with the ability to engineer homes, build zoo's and use their imaginations. These will be loved and cherished for years to come.
