This project is about helping young readers see themselves and their world in the books we read. These books represent students by emphasizing characters of color, inspiring leaders, and handling topics such as intersectionality, gender identity, and various cultural traditions.
These books will inspire students by engaging in colorful and empowering books. Books like My Footprints and Parker Looks Up engage students by showing children doing ordinary activities. Having texts about inspiring women like Sonia Sotomayor, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, and Malala Yousafzai help give all students images of people reaching excellence. Finally, gender identity and expression are so important to emphasize with young children. Books like, It Feels Good to Be Yourself, will help give students context for things they feel.
Please help to fulfill this project, so my students can grow as readers with books that authentically discuss everyone's experiences.
