My students have different communication, social, curriculum, and academic learning goals. I individualize many domains of my instruction in order to best teach each of my students in the most effective way, while meeting their learning needs. My students are noticeably more engaged when stories are being read that involve more interaction such as pieces that represent characters and empower them to assist in the story-telling. It can become difficult for them to sit and listen to a story and engage with no visuals or hands-on materials.
Studies have shown that when children participate in interactive story-time they are both learning, and sparking their imaginations and practicing social interaction. The materials listed for our classroom will make a difference in my students' learning by giving them a hands-on and more engaged approach to learning different concepts and social skills. They can answer questions, and help myself and their peers tell the story! I can spark their imaginations during our daily story-time together and build on the foundation that we have started in excelling at meeting their learning goals!
My students and I would treat these interactive story pieces and shine-a-light books with love and care and they would greatly benefit from the opportunities that these materials would bring. These learning materials give opportunities to cover each of their goals from communication goals to social and academic goals. We can use these materials and bring our story-time to life!
