Within the last few weeks I have really gotten to know my students and noticed that they like to have different seating options when doing any type of work in the classroom. After a few hours of sitting in their chairs it would be nice to offer my kids more options in seating where they can feel comfortable and at home. Comfort seams to be key in helping them focus on a specific task as well as giving them the option of movement and variety in the classroom.
They are an independent bunch and giving them opportunities to express their independence, even if by simply choosing where to sit is big with them. The rugs will be placed in two areas in the classroom. The first being the classroom library, where they will be able to sit or stretch their legs while reading or listening to a story. The second will be at the smart board. Here those students who sit towards the back can sit closer to the board and the teacher. This will help them focus more on the lesson. The flexible seats will allow the students to sit in other places around the classroom that are not the rugs.
