Our school population includes 34% Emerging Bilingual students and 68% of students who are at risk learners. Many of my students do not have access to these text-rich books that can support them as they process growing up, build empathy, and build relationships.
I want my kiddos who come from over 20 countries to see themselves in the books that they read! I want them to process, kindness, empathy, and hardship together through the books that we read as a community of unique learners. So, one easy way I can help teach my kiddos about social and emotional learning is through the beauty of literacy. In the same way, I believe that ALL children should have access to books and that the books they read represent them within the pages. I honor and respect multicultural learning in my classroom and desire to see my students reading books where they are ALL represented. Please help get these books in the hands of my amazing kiddos and support my classroom library with books that will help them better understand how we express ourselves and celebrate our diversity.
