Gathering around a warm, large, welcoming carpet will provide a an area for the students to learn new information, positively interact with each other, and focus on the materials being taught. A cozy carpet area will be the perfect place to learn essential skills, while being able work together and build classroom community. In addition to whole group instruction, the students will also be able to use the carpet for small group times, and individual reading time. The carpet will be the meeting place for daily classroom meetings that build social skills and classroom community. I currently have two small rugs that do not provide enough space for my second grade students. A new cozy carpet area will provide a warm, clean spot for students to interact with each other, while still having their own personal space.
