A soft, cozy chair is an invitation to crack open a book, but it's also a place where you can simply sit and breathe. In a Kindergarten world where there is stimulus and occasionally chaos, a space that is comfortable to sit in, can give you peace that you might not always find in a classroom with other five-year-olds.
When students feel comfortable and relaxed in their environment, they can let go of the stressors and simply read. The more they read and practice, the more they can increase their skills in comprehension, phonics, fluency, and vocabulary.
Flexible comfortable seating will provide my students with an area in our classroom that could improve their reading skills, but also allow them to find a time of peace and relaxation during their day.
